2006 Assessment Information:

Assessment Unit Description: (What's this?)
Waterbody Name: Great Run
Waterbody Type and Size: RIVER - 8.78 MILES
Waterbody Location: Segment begins at the headwaters of Great Run and continues downstream until the confluence with an unnamed tributary to Great Run (streamcode XAC), at rivermile 7.20.

Assessment Unit: VAN-E02R_GRT04A04
Assessment Category: EPA Category 4A: Impaired or threatened for one or more designated uses but does not require a TMDL because the TMDL for specific pollutant(s) is complete and US EPA approved.
Impairments: Escherichia coli
Sources: Grazing in Riparian or Shoreline Zones;  Livestock (Grazing or Feeding Operations);  Runoff from Forest/Grassland/Parkland;  Sewage Discharges in Unsewered Areas;  Wastes from Pets;  Waterfowl;  Wildlife Other than Waterfowl
Comments: Class III, Section 4.

DEQ monitoring station 3-GRT007.72, at Route 802. Citizen monitoring stations 3GRT-F10-SOS and 3GRT-F10-URWP.

The aquatic life and wildlife uses are considered fully supporting. Citizen monitoring finds low probability of adverse conditions for biota. E.coli monitoring finds a bacterial impairment, resulting in an impaired classification for the recreation use. A bacteria TMDL for the Great Run watershed was submitted to the U.S. EPA and approved March 10, 2005. The sources of bacteria requiring reductions are pet, livestock and wildlife waste delivered directly to the stream, and human contributions from straight pipes and failing septic systems. The fish consumption use was not assessed.

2004 TMDL ID for this segment was VAN-E02R-02.
